Robert Madura String Scholarship

The Robert Madura String Scholarship is awarded by audition to an outstanding orchestral string student (violin, viola, cello, harp), age 15-21, for study at an established summer music program or for the purchase of an instrument. A first place award of $600 will be given in memory of Robert Madura, who was an inspiration both to his colleagues and students. Madura was principal cellist with the Grand Rapids Symphony and remained musically active throughout his courageous struggle with leukemia, which finally took his life in 1989.

Congratulations to Bridget Parlmer, the winner of the 2026 Robert Madura Scholarship competition. Bridget will use the prize money to fund private lessons.
